PREPARATION
Ensure that the areas that are
to have Fibreglass Stair Tread Covers fitted are clean and dry,
and free from loose and defective material. Any damaged surface
areas should be patch repaired to provide a reasonably flat and
consistent surface. Dry fit all Fibreglass Stair Tread Covers
to ensure that they fit freely, and that they sit flat down onto
the surface. If required, Stair Tread Covers can be trimmed on
site to suit, using an industrial jigsaw and appropriate cutting
blades (Bosch T101 A1F or similar). Drill the fixing locating
holes in all the panels. Whilst individual circumstances will
vary, the following can be used as a guide:
FIBREGLASS STAIR TREAD COVERS
Drill two holes on each side of
the Fibreglass Stair Tread Cover, one approx. 15mm in from the
back edge and 15mm in from the side. The second one should again
be approx. 15mm in from the side, and in line with the black and
yellow dividing line. The first drilled Cover can be used as a
pattern for the other Covers.
FIBREGLASS PLATE LANDING COVER
The front edge fixing points should
again be approx. 15mm in from the side. The remaining fixing points
should be 15mm in from the edges, and approx. 500mm centres.
FLAT SHEET
Drill holes 15mm in from all edges
at approx. 600mm centres. Depending on the width of the landing
covers, it may be necessary to provide fixing points, also at
500mm centres, down the middle.
FITTING STAIR TREAD COVERS
Mechanical fixings are all that
is required to secure Tread Covers. However, the application of
an appropriate high strength gap filling adhesive (Bostic, Sikaflex,
or similar, can be supplied) will provide additional fixing strength
and a barrier against any 'drumming' noise that may be created
when walking on the Stair Tread Covers.
Apply a 6mm bead of the high strength
gap-filling adhesive around the periphery of the panel, and in
horizontal stripes at approximately 250mm centres. Press the panel
firmly to the substrate immediately, to ensure adequate transfer
of the adhesive. Secure with the mechanical fixings, and allow
the adhesive sealant to cure before allowing excessive traffic
to use the areas. Under normal circumstances and conditions, a
firm bond will be achieved in about 1 hour.
GAP FILLING ADHESIVE QUANTITIES
As a guide, one tube (290ml) of
adhesive is sufficient for any one of the following:
5 x 600mm wide Tread Covers 2 x 1200mm x 1200mm Landing Covers
3 x 1000mm wide Tread Covers 1 x 1200mm x 2400mm landing Covers
2 x 1500 wide Tread Covers
